Inday Sara Duterte Resigns

President Duterte's eldest daughter resigns from Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), a political alliance in the Philippines which she founded in July 2018 in support of her father, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. HNP is considered a regional political party, thus in order to run as President she need to have the support of a major national political party such as Lakas-CMD or PDP Laban. She also has an option to run as an independent candidate like Vice President Leni Robredo.

It can be recalled that Sara Duterte said that she formed Hugpong ng Pagbabago "to pursue the ideals of what we all want, a strong region, a secure life for our constituents, good governance and effective leadership of the members of the party."

Duterte's resigned through a handwritten letter sent at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Duterte, In her letter to the HNP officers and members, wrote: "It is with profound sadness that I hereby tender my resignation from our beloved party. My support will always be with you and I will always be grateful for all the things you have taught me."

The move was expected by political enthusiasts who predicted it long before Sara decided to withdraw her candidacy as mayor in Davao fielding her younger brother Baste Duterte as her replacement.
