#TabingIlogTheMusical 2020

Moi favorito afternoon TV show from 1999 up to 2003 is Tabing Ilog.  That is where Kaye Abad, John Lloyd Cruz, Jodi Sta.Maria, Patrick Garcia,  Paula Peralejo, Paolo Contis, Desiree del Valle, Baron Geisler jump started their careers in showbizness. "Tabing Ilog" theme song was sung by Barbie Almalbis of Barbie's Cradle. Life back then was simple and uncomplicated.

Fast forward to March 2020, Abs-Cbn veering  away from the stereotypes produces for the very first time a theater play for the benefit of Bantay Kalikasan.

#TabingIlogTheMusical 2020 will be open for public viewing starting on March 7, 2020 (Saturday) at Dolphy Theater. Buy your tickets now!

The musical play version of the hit TV series is set at the present time, the year 2020. So, it is expected that the barkada now has cellphones.  The play also tackles friendship, family, parenting, relationship, love, LGBTQ, finances, False sense of Pride, toxic masculinity, palabra de honor,  how to cope up with life's various challenges. How to be a strong person. Coming out of a lesbian to her friend, bullying, alcoholism, mental illness depressions, suicide and other social issues.

Theatre actor Vino Mabalot Ace his role as Fonzy.

Fonzy's character is the face of depression. Jolly, makulit, maharot, jokester always smiling but deep inside he was hurting, feeling alone and helpless. In one of his monologues he said this line "Bakit hihingi ako ng tulong sa inyo, Ang mga taong cool ay Hindi humihingi ng saklolo. Madami nga akong kaibigan pero tila nag iisa pa rin".  It may be a small role but he has one of the best impact to the audience in my own opinion.

Another notable scene is the beautiful friendship between a man and a woman without malice. I enjoyed the singing and the dancing plus the dialogue exchange between Badong and Eds in the padyak scene.

PBB Otso 2nd big placer Kiara Takahashi play the role of "Eds" and Batit Espiritu as Badong.

You should watch out for this scene. It is high time for men to understand that a man and a woman can be the best of friends without any romance. Thus, "Pwede pala Yun" song keeps on running on my head up until now.

Aside from that, I also like the scene between Badong and Ely (Franco Ramos) the one who coined the term "Rebound Friend" in the musical.

Lola Uying played by Agot Isidro and Rovic played by Ian Pangilinan. Lola Uying hated herself for raising Rovic the way he was now. An egoistic, full of pride bastard. Excuse my language. His portrayal makes his character relatable to those who are involved in a relationship with a machismo type of man.

In this particular scene the lola wanted him to veer away from traditions, toxic masculinity that a man can cheat and expect to be forgiven.

The character of Rovic was left behind in the era with backward idea of women. He think his girlfriend Eds need not go to college (she is poor) as he plans to provide for all of her needs when they get married. Rovic thought that by showering her with material things that she can’t afford gave him the authority to dictate on how she dresses and behave in every occasion.

In this version also, I like how the barkada because they come together to save the Ilog (river).

Teetin Villanueva as Corrine and former PBB Otso Housemates Jem Macatuno as James.

Yes, environmentalist ang peg so type ko siya! #BantayKalikasan. Plus, Ms.Gina Lopez was mentioned in the play. We all love her and her genuine love for the environment.🥰 She must be beaming in heaven. Her crusade for the good of the environment was never forgotten.

I bet the audience can easily relate with the various characters in the play. Ikaw ba Sino ka among the barkada?

I wonder what would be the reactions of the original casts of "Tabing Ilog" to the musical if they watch it!?
