PMPC to confer LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS to Laurice Guillen, Dante Rivero
The 35th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies is set to be staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila, on June 2, 2019 (Sunday). Every year, the movie industry and fans alike, look forward to the accolades given to showbiz personalities in the different categories plus the special citations including the lifetime achievement honors.
The 2019 PMPC awards this year will confer the Nora Aunor Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran actor Dante Rivero. He was chosen based upon his outstanding body of work, remarkable achievements in Philippine movie industry as an award-winning actor, unquestionable credibility and integrity as a seasoned artist. Truly, Rivero he has been touching the lives of the Filipinos via his artistry through the years.
At 72, Rivero is still visible in movies and television. Last year, he was lead star in Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon where he won his first international best actor award.
Rivero's notable roles were noted in the movies The Janitor, It Takes A an And A Woman, Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, My House Husband, Working Girls, Ang Darling Ko'y Aswang, Tarot, You Changed My Life, A Very Special Love, Anak ng Kumander, A Love Story, Nasaan Ka Man, Walang Kapalit, Lapu-lapu, Kailangan Kita, Esperanza, the Movie, Di Puwedeng Hindi Puwede, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay Strebel, Gestapo ng Manila, Paano Ang Puso Ko, Kristo, Bala Ko Ang Hahatol, and Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos among many others.
The previous honorees of this esteemed accolade were: Dolphy, Eddie Garcia, Joseph Estrada, Ramon Revilla, Gloria Romero, Boots Anson-Roa, Caridad Sanchez, Perla Bautista, Susan Roces, Armando Goyena, Alicia Vergel, Armida Siguion-Reyna, Gil de Leon, Charito Solis, Chichay, Leopoldo Salcedo, Mona Lisa, Rosal Rosal, Anita Linda, German Moreno, Rudy Fernandez, Gina Pareño, Christopher de Leon, Lito Lapid, Vilma Santos, Rustica Carpio, Amalia Fuentes, Pen Medina, and Gina Tuding Alajar (2018).
Superstar Nora Aunor was the original co-founder of the particular award in cooperation with the PMPC. That's why it was named after the multi-awarded actress as a way of tribute to her legacy as institution and icon of Philippine Cinema. Yearly, Ate Guy, as Aunor is popularly called, personally presents the trophy to the recipient, together with the current and past presidents of the writers' group.
Likewise, Director Laurice Guillen will be conferred the Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera Lifetime Achievement Award. This is given to outstanding and iconic people behind the camera (directors, producers, screenwriters, cinematographers, etc).
With the same standard for the selection of Rivero, PMPC also applauds Direc Guillen for her pioneering work in the Actors Workshop and as President of Cinemalaya, a pioneer independent film festival which won the prestigious 24th Nikkei Asia Prizes which will be given in Japan this May.
Past honorees of this equally highly esteemed awards were Mother Lily Monteverde, Marilou Diaz-Abaya, Peque Gallaga, Ricky Lee, Romy Vitug, Mel Chionglo, Carlo J. Caparas, Joel Lamangan, and Tikoy Aguiluz (2018).
