GREEN DAY'S AMERICAN IDIOT THE MUSICAL

GREEN DAY'S AMERICAN IDIOT THE MUSICAL

The Sound of Disenchantment is Punk

In many ways, this is a recurring theme in any generation: the youth feeling cynical and jaded by the present world that surrounds them. They want change. They want more. So they go out in search for it. While they say it’s not the destination but the journey, sometimes the journey can break or change you, and therein lays hope.

It’s a story fit for the rage and kinetic energy of punk rock music. Framed within the story of three suburban youths in “Jingletown, USA,” we follow Johnny, Will, and Tunny as they leave the comforts of suburbia and face reality head on. It’s a story of disillusionment, drugs, war, and broken relationships. But it’s also a story about love, dreams, change, healing and hope.

This is American Idiot, the 2010 Tony award nominee for Best Musical. The critically acclaimed show brought home Tony Awards for Best Musical Scenic Design and Best Musical Lighting Design. It also earned a Grammy award for Best Musical Show.

American Idiot is a punk rock musical with book by Michael Mayer and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, and with music and lyrics by Green Day. The musical is based on Green Day’s number one comeback album of the same name, which sold over 15 million copies worldwide.
