BINOY HENYO: GMA 7's Afternoon Delight

Everyday from Monday to Friday, just before 24 oras, our kapuso enthusiasts have a good time watching Binoy Henyo (Binoy, the Genius Kid). A GMA 7 offering at 5:50 p.m. slot which targets the young audiences, who just came home from school.

Binoy Henyo is a unique character created, developed and produced by Marlon Miguel. Executive producer is Winnie Hollis-Reyes and directed by Albert Langitan. The show premiered last July 22, 2013. It stars cute David Remo as Robin "Binoy" Santos, 

We had a chance to interview some of the cast members of the drama-comedy television series Binoy Henyo of GMA 7 the other day. And I personally find the kiddos so cute and articulate, both of them are doing well in their respective schools. When I asked the kids what time they usually sleeps, David said that he is asleep at around 8 or 9 pm, because he wakes up at 6 in the morning. The kid is an early riser and loves playing games like Temple Run and Candy Crush. He also likes Ben 10, loves eating vegetables and fruits. He is a typical six-year old kid who loves playing around. For him, the television show is one of his playing grounds. When we asked him, how does he managed to cry on TV. He said he just thinks about his dad hitting him, Oh huh!  

Angel Satsumi who plays the role of Len-Len de Guzman, ( Binoys bestfriend) on the other hand sleeps at around 12 midnight because she said she watches cartoons on cable and loves playing online games. Barbie is one of her favorite.

Sheena Halili plays Agnes Santos (Binoy's mom). According to Sheena playing a Mom is the most challenging role she had ever portrayed. She also shared that she loves working with all the cast and team because it just felt so right and light.  She developed a bond with David Remo who describes Sheena as kind. I asked Sheena where she based her role since she's still single and don't have a child. She said her inspiration is her mom whom she treat as her bestfriend. She also shared that during taping, she would ask their director or their executive director if she is doing the right thing since this is her first time to portray the role of a mom. Sheena were very cautious because their show "Binoy Henyo" is a family themed teleserye. 

Sheena described her role as a kind-hearted mother who loves Binoy unconditionally and will do everything to protect him. In the teleserye Sheena has single-handedly raised Binoy to become a respectful, smart, and loving boy. In spite of her personal hardships and her struggles of not being able to read and write, she will strive to learn and get an education as she works hard to make ends meet just to give her son a good life.

The 45- minute show centers on Binoy, a six-year-old genius boy and his struggles with poverty and his longing for a father figure in his life. He also has a robot he named "Bibot" or short for Binoy's robot. Bibot can catch ball. His other robot is named Higolat short for taga Higop ng Kalat. So cute indeed.

In the story, an illiterate single mother embraces the joys and sacrifices in raising her mischievous but innocent and charming Binoy. Agnes and her son face a conflict when Binoy's long lost father, Francis , learns of Agnes and his son's whereabouts. Their reunion was intentionally delayed by the scheming Emily, the scheming wife of Francis.

Binoy Henyo also stars Rich Asuncion.  She plays the role of Teacher Josie, Binoy's adviser who is instrumental in discovering Binoy's intelligence. While strict and intimidating on the outside, Teacher Josie is a good person who feels genuine concern for the welfare of her students. Rich is very busy balancing her time with acting and studying. She is taking up Tourism and will be graduating soon. She wants to put up her own business someday.

Lucho Ayala, who happens to have a big crush on Carla Avellana, is a fourth year Speech Communication student at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Lucho plays the role of Jaime Sandoval who is Francis' (Luis Alandy) younger brother and best friend. Francis would always confide his problems to Jaime (Lucho) and would always ask for his advice about everything that is happening in his life including his problems with Binoy. Lucho in real life is busy balancing his time with his showbiz commitments and school. He used to act and take part at their school plays even before he entered showbiz.
